Abstract

PARSELIS, Verónica. Urban palimpsestos: function of art and public space. Índex [online]. 2020, n.9, pp.140-145. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.v0i09.247.

In recent decades, street art has become a globalized contemporary art practice. It responds to peculiar characteristics of development of postindustrial cities, and to art forms that relate to political concerns and modes of expression that transform the aesthetic experience in the urban context. This work questions the old topic about the “function of art” and seeks to understand street art as a form of artivism and of "overflow" in public space.

Keywords : Street art; public space; contemporary art; function; artivism.
