This article addresses the history of the National Museum and collections in Ecuador between 1839 with the founding of the first National Museum, until 1876 with the closure of the Escuela Politécnica Nacional (National Polytechnic School). This research revolves around understanding the historical context, the fragility of museums and the management of artistic and scientific collections from State institutions and the influence of travelers and scientists who were part of the faculty of the Central University of Ecuador (1836) and the Escuela Politécnica (1869).
