Based on two investigations on documentary archives that contribute to the understanding of the history of architecture, design and art in Ecuador, the evolutionary process that history has undergone and its relation with these disciplines is analyzed. Architects, designers and artists take on the challenge of being historians of our fields of expertise, given that there are no historians interested in the subject in Latin American countries. We provide an account of ways of history is made in the search for where and how to think about design and its history in Ecuador.
