Abstract

CARRILLO, Jorge. Pancho Jaime: big deal being a politician. Índex [online]. 2019, n.7, pp.48-56. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.v0i07.181.

This paper is a review of the work of Pancho Jaime (1946-1989) in Ecuador in the eighties. It examines the artistic and political game that Pancho Jaime proposed, taking into account the cartography that the Red Conceptualismos del Sur compiled about alternative artistic and political practices during those years. A contextualization of his time is made and is compared briefly with what happened in the official aesthetic field in Ecuador. Then from the notions “strategy of joy”, “doing politics with nothing” and “bodies and flows” is analyzed the way in which Pancho Jaime advanced artistic and political practices that are disturbing to this day.

Keywords : politics; art; Eighties; Pancho Jaime.
