Abstract

POVEDA-YANEZ, Jorge. Contemporary art: A perpetual simulation of derridian parergonality. Índex [online]. 2018, n.5, pp.86-91. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.v0i04.119.

Among the discussions about contemporary art, it is compulsory to analyze not only the results, but also the paradigmatic notions that have impregnated a practice of notable explorations that can be considered either as experimental or plainly heteroclite. With the assistance of a panoramic view on contemporary art praxis, and keeping it always closely, I will propose derridian parergonality as an ideal contraption from where inspect works that have been named incomplete, lacking in seriousness, or just elaborate jokes, that now can be considered, in addition, as cogitations about transitional and exchange spaces between art and reality. The authors of the contemporary practice will re-appear as assertive or reckless pontiffs, between these two territories, whose opposition and complementary nature has been the implied interest of an artistic expression that is more interested in liminality that it is on art as an inscrutable centrality.

Keywords : parergonality; parergon; contemporary art; art-reality; liminality; framing; structuralism; french theory.
