Abstract

The article analyses the exhibition Latin American Artists of the Twentieth Century (Museum of Modern Art - MOMA, Nueva York, 1992-1993) as part of a broad cultural context: the global art system and its variations in the 80s, the latin american art boom in the United States and America’s conquest and colonization Quincentenary. From this starting point, considering the exhibition’s archives and other documental references, the question is: how Latin America, its art and artists are represented and placed?
