Abstract
VILLARRUEL-MEYTHALER, Ramiro Efraín; TAPIA-MORALES, Karen Irene and CARDENAS-GARCIA, Joselyn Katherine. Determinants of academic performance of high school in Ecuador. Revista Economía y Política [online]. 2020, n.32, pp.212-234. Epub July 08, 2020. ISSN 2477-9075.
The present research analyzes the demographic, physiological, socioeconomic, cultural, academic, and psychological determinants that influence in the academic performance of the students who took the exam Ser Bachiller in the 2016-2017 school year. In addition, the research describes the origin, evolution and application of psychometric exams in Ecuador and around the world. To observe the effect that these determinants have on academic performance, an econometric model of logistic regression is constructed that shows the magnitude and relationship of the main variables that determine the academic performance of High School students in Ecuador. In this sense, the best factors that affect the academic performance of High School students are the cost of preparation before the Ser Bachiller exam (11.42% higher) and the manifestation, by the student, of having a perception of internal control and personal responsibility (10.61% higher).
