This article deals with the recognition of the Peruvian forestry development approach. For this purpose, bibliographic research was carried out from an interdisciplinary approach to account for the different contributions being made from a variety of disciplines to which the Peruvian forestry sector does not have access due to its strongly disciplinary perspective. The findings indicate that forestry development in Peru is fundamentally conceived as a contribution to the growth of the national economy, and as a consequence, the focus is on increasing productivity and competitiveness. Although the importance of sustainable harvesting with social and environmental considerations is mentioned, in practice the economic orientation prevails within the framework of the neoliberal capitalist system in which the Peruvian forestry institutionality framework is inscribed. This situation means that forestry development is considered more a goal to be achieved than a subject to be reflected upon or rethought. It is concluded that forestry development in Peru is linked to sustainable development with a strong relevance of the economic dimension within the framework of an anthropocentric approach and commodification of nature, thus fulfilling the role assigned in the global geopolitics of raw material suppliers.
