The present work determined the profile of the tourist, the processes and the motivations of travel for heritage tourism products within the Ruta del Hielo II, which is part of the tourist offer of Ferrocarriles del Ecuador Empresa Pública (FEEP). We used the methodology of Valls and ESADE that determines the ociotipos; it was characterized by the identification of the main and secondary motivations of travel, as well as the socioeconomic variables and lifestyles. The results identify the sociodemographic and psychographic characteristics of the users of the train route as well as their travel motivations in three ociotipos characterized as: natuactivos, relajados naturales and culturales recreativos, which have as main motivation of travel to nature and activities that they are allowed to have contact with it; among the secondary motivations, relaxation activities, culture and recreation were determined. The results presented to the importance of the errors and motivations of travel for the improvement of the offer of tourist products as base of a sustainable development of the cultural patrimony.
