A sampling of birds was carried out in two areas of the UCEs campus: the University Citadel and the surroundings of the Faculty of Physical Culture. Fieldwork took place in October-December 2016. A total of 26 species of 14 families were registered. Four species are boreal migratory while the rest are residents. Within this bird community, it was determined that the Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata) was the dominant species. The most diverse families were the Thraupidae, the Trochilidae and the Tyrannidae, respectively. Trophic guilds -with more species- were granivores and insectivorous. The floristic structure of the university campus is composed mostly of introduced ornamental trees and few remnants of native plants, which together cover an area of 70 hectares. The data obtained suggest that there is a variety of available resources that support this community of birds. Therefore, the future of the resident species and those that visit the study area during the migration season, depends on the proper maintenance of their artificial and natural environments.
