Abstract

ROUCO-MENDEZ, Alexis Jesús; GELABERT-ABREU, Dayra  and  MUNOZ-HERNANDEZ, Ruslan. Sustainability references in modern neighborhoods of Cerro Municipality, Havana. Estoa [online]. 2023, vol.12, n.24, pp.149-160. ISSN 1390-9274.  https://doi.org/10.18537/est.v012.n024.a12.

The Modern Movement renewed form and space, based on reason, technological advances and the social value of architecture and urbanism. Its internationalization led to regional versions, with valid particular contributions. In Havana, its consolidation coincided with the accelerated expansion of the city in a heterogeneous network of residential subdivisions. In the light of today, the existence of urban-architectural design responses with sustainability criteria, references for the creation of new environments, is detected. The article shows the values of the MoMo legacy, in four urbanizations of the Cerro municipality, which respond to current sustainability criteria, and whose application is possible in the contemporary Cuban context. Theoretical and empirical research methods were used, among which field work and archive searches stand out, and the results are inserted into a macro investigation on the MoMo in Havana.

Keywords : Modern Movement; sustainability; urbanizations; periphery; south of Havana.
