Abstract

CARAPELLESE, Giuseppe et al. Assessment of rural wall fortifications using SfM digital photogrammetry technique. Methodological application to Alhonoz Castle (Ecija, Spain). Estoa [online]. 2020, vol.9, n.18, pp.164-182. ISSN 1390-9274.  https://doi.org/10.18537/est.v009.n018.a09.

Abstract The Castle of Alhonoz, catalogued as a heritage asset in 1985, is one of the most important fortresses in the municipality of Ecija (Seville, Spain), being a strategic site for the populations settled in its environment since protohistoric times. The aim of the study is to integrate the procedure of digital photogrammetric modelling based on the Structure from Motion (SfM) technique within a methodology already tested by the authors. By means of a simple technique, it is allowed to obtain straightforward information in order to evaluate and diagnose this type of structures, and also to contribute to the development of knowledge of these defensive systems. Implementing this versatile and low specialization methodology has enabled a reliable preliminary evaluation for decision making by competent technicians.

Keywords : military architecture; digital photogrammetry; rammed-earth construction; damage; risk.
