Abstract

CONTRERAS URGILES, Rafael Wilmer; JARAMILLO ANDRADE, Carlos Ayrton  and  PIZARRO BARRERA, Erick Josué. METHODOLOGICAL PROPOSAL FOR THE DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF A FORMULA SAE MONOCOQUE. Ingenius [online]. 2023, n.30, pp.42-53. ISSN 1390-860X.  https://doi.org/10.17163/ings.n30.2023.04.

This document explains the methodology used for the design of a Formula Student monocoque based on the 2020 regulations, the values obtained from the modelling using CAD (Computer Aided Design) software and the FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis serve as the basis for this study, the values of mass, centre of gravity and geometry are selected as they provide more information which helps to determine optimisation points in the design process. The FEM analysis determines the stresses that are admissible for the monocoque and that are within the safety parameters, with a minimum admissible safety factor of 1.1. From the model obtained, two CFRP laminates (Carbon Fibre and Epoxy Resin Laminate) are developed, of which the first gives a simulated weight result of 38kg, and the second laminate configuration a result of 20kg. The model with the lowest weight is subjected to stress analysis, the results obtained are superior to a tubular chassis, a 2017 electric singleseater model is taken as a reference.
