Resumen

MENDOZA, Xavier Quishpe et al. Utilization of Brassica oleracea Flour in Broiler Chickens’ Feed. RCTU [online]. 2023, vol.10, n.2, pp.1-10. ISSN 1390-7697.  https://doi.org/10.26423/rctu.v10i2.723.

The escalating costs of raw materials for manufacturing balanced animal feed present a current economic challenge in animal production. This study aimed to ascertain the chemical composition of broccoli flour (Brassica oleracea) and evaluate its impact on the productivity of broiler chickens when incorporated into their diet. Employing an experimental design with a deductive methodology, we determined the plant’s chemical composition and monitored various productivity variables in the animals. The flour exhibited elevated protein content. Productivity indicators demonstrated that, with an extended rearing period, the treatment with 30% flour inclusion surpassed expectations, yielding a live weight of 3.17 kg/bird, a consumption rate of 5.22, and a conversion efficiency of 1.64 g/kg, all while maintaining a 100% viability with no recorded mortalities. The inclusion of broccoli flour up to 30% did not adversely impact productivity indicators and contributed to a reduction in bird mortality.
