Abstract

CHAVEZ-GARCIA, Debbie et al. Identification of predominant gastrointestinal parasites in bovines from the Santa Elena Peninsula. RCTU [online]. 2020, vol.7, n.2, pp.47-51. ISSN 1390-7697.  https://doi.org/10.26423/rctu.v7i2.524.

The research was carried out at the Regional Processing Center of the canton La Libertad province of Santa Elena, the objective was to identify the presence or absence and types of gastrointestinal parasites found in cattle, for the study was used the coproparasirian technique of flotation by sucrose-glucose and direct smears, the taking of faecal samples was performed in fifty post-mortem animals selecting those from the peninsular area , a stool sample was taken, identified and preserved until further analysis in the Agricultural Research Laboratory of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the State University Peninsula of Santa. Elena, the results obtained were processed in the SPSS statistical package 21.0. The results mainly observed gastrointestinal parasites predominating Nematodes with 87%, Cestodos 9% and Protozoa cysts 4%; where the greatest presence of the different types of parasites were Oesophagostomun spp., (Nematodes) with 31%, Moniezia expansa 50% (cestodos) and Balantidium coli (protozoa) with 43%, it should also be emphasized that the most efficient method in the conditions for this study used was that of the flotation technique with sucrose in which a 55% parasitic load was obtained compared to glucose 35% and with direct 10%. This indicates that according to the established parameters it is necessary to carry out a health plan in the different areas of the Santa Elena Peninsula to determine the main antiparasitics that should be used to counteract nematodes, cestodos and protozoa within the digestive tract of the bovine and to be able to lower its presence in the area improving the productive behavior of the animals.
