In this scenario, psychology provides significant resources to understand the diversity of personal and social responses to environmental care issues, both proactive and negationist. To this end, two major categories of study were reviewed: psychological factors and contextual factors. Then, the main intervention strategies are described through holistic and ecological models along with scientific evidence supporting their association allows to explain the sustainable actions of individuals. Finally, the pertinence of including these concepts in subsequent research addressing environmental themes for a more comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon is discussed.
