Abstract

OCAMPO-MALLOU, Carolina  and  FOLGUERA, Guillermo. Social Epidemiology of Dengue in Argentina?. Letras Verdes [online]. 2022, n.31, pp.7-24. ISSN 1390-6631.  https://doi.org/10.17141/letrasverdes.31.2022.5055.

The National Ministry of Health of Argentina indicated that the worst epidemic of dengue registered in the country occurred during the 2019-2020 period. Meanwhile, the number of cases around the world is growing up. This article aims to understand the failures in the control of dengue by analyzing if the epidemiological construction of the problem in Argentine recovers elements of some theories from social epidemiology. Based on a bibliographic review, we selected all the studies that include dengue cases between 1998 and 2019 in the country. It is concluded that the conceptual construction of epidemiological studies of dengue in Argentine ignores social determination of the health-disease process. In consequence, scientists seem to study the epidemiological problem predominantly as a biological one.

Keywords : Argentina; communicable diseases; epidemic; epidemiology; fight against diseases.
