ORTIZ DE ORUE,, Haydeé. Estimation of Social Benefits Reported by Improvements in Conservation and Tourism in the Choquequirao Natural Area. Letras Verdes [online]. 2020, n.27, pp.167-188. ISSN 1390-6631. https://doi.org/10.17141/letrasverdes.27.2020.3921.
The intervention of the State in conservation policies and in public tourist infrastructure in natural protected areas (NPA) must be assumed financially by the users who perceive its benefits. These NPAs provide a wide variety of environmental goods and services that do not have a market price to determine their real economic value. The preference methods can be used to determine this economic value through the willingness to pay (WTP) for the improvements associated with change policies in conservation and tourism in a natural area such as Choquequirao. This economic instrument will allow raising funds to implement natural and cultural conservation policies and tourist policies in the NPA. The WTP proposed by the Conjoint Analysis method shows results, by the implementation of joint improvements in conservation projects and tourist infrastructure. A WTP fee of 11.50 dollars per tourist, additional to the entrance fee, will contribute to the fulfillment of the strategic objectives of conservation of the area. The economic benefits that would be reported by the joint preference of conservation and tourism policies would be $ 80,718.50 per year.
