Climate change caused by anthropic activities since the pre-industrial period is a latent reality that threatens the natural balance of the planet. The increase in temperature due to greenhouse gas emissions is having irreversible effects that harm all life forms. Given this scenario, it is necessary to propose new alternatives that are resilient to the effects of global warming. Bioeconomy can be a strategy to reduce the carbon footprint and move towards a sustainable production model based on the use of biodiversity. This term has been developing with great force in the last decade. Theoretically, it is based on the principle of the biological origin of the economic processes governed by a limit law. In a world where resources are finite and in constant pressure due to population growth and growing demand for food, it is necessary to establish mechanisms that cushion anthropic activities. In this process, agroecology plays an important role in improving access to healthy products and improving biodiversity conservation. The approach and execution of the bioeconomy depends on the vision and interests pursued by each country or region. Ecuador must seek its own model, away from the expansionist logics of energy crops and focus on development and innovation, taking advantage of the richness of its biodiversity.
