Abstract

ROJAS, Juan  and  ZUNIGA, Libys. Planned Adaptation of Traditional Dwellings to Extreme Hydrometeorological Events in Indigenous Peoples in the Bolivian Gran Chaco. Rev Politéc. (Quito) [online]. 2023, vol.51, n.2, pp.39-51. ISSN 2477-8990.  https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.33333/rp.vol51n2.04.

The effects caused by extreme hydrometeorological events of natural origin such as droughts and floods in traditional houses in the province of Gran Chaco in Bolivia are frequent. The construction techniques used, the construction materials used, the location and the design of the houses affect them, because they do not resist the threats of said extreme events. These aspects compromise the habitat of the populations that occupy them. That is why this research proposes to develop, from the theoretical bases of planned adaptation as a component of urban-territorial resilience, the improvement of socio-environmental systems in the face of the effects of extreme hydrometeorological events through these traditional dwellings. It is from qualitative research that this research is supported to recognize variables and attributes supported from interdisciplinary and systemic approaches. The same ones that allow connecting the relationship between the climatic effects and the native peoples, seeking from social practice the improvement of housing through engineering solutions covered by a group of territorial regulations in the rural area, as well as the construction of public policies from the corresponding regulatory body.

Keywords : Planned adaptation; extreme hydrometeorological events; native peoples; Gran Chaco.
