RODRIGUEZ, Suly et al. Evaluation of the Quality of Irrigation Water from the Tilipulo Enríquez-Cotopaxi Acequia Through the Sodium Absorption Ratio (SAR). Rev Politéc. (Quito) [online]. 2022, vol.49, n.2, pp.55-64. ISSN 2477-8990. https://doi.org/10.33333/rp.vol49n2.06.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the quality of the water in the Tilipulo Enríquez canal using the Sodium Absorption Ratio (SAR) as an indicator and thus determine whether or not it is suitable for irrigation of crops, taking as a reference the Riverside Standards. For which, samples were taken in three points of the Latacunga canton and one of Saquisilí : Tanicuchí, Guaytacama, Saquisilí and Poaló. It was obtained as a result that at the sample point 1 belonging to Tanicuchí, the water is of good quality and suitable for irrigation, due to the fact that it has geological faults with high slopes of up to 25%, in addition to the fact that in this area the Yanayacu River provides water to the ditch by increasing its channel and decreasing the conductivity of the water resource. Compared with Guaytacama (point 2) and Saquisilí (point 3), the waters are usable for irrigation with precautions, since these territories have slopes between 5 and 12%, a climate with temperatures between 12 and 15 ° C and rainfall between 400 at 500 mm factors that contribute to the increase in conductivity and salinity of its waters. Finally, at sampling point 4 located in Poaló, the water is of good quality and suitable for irrigation, since this area is humid and rainy, with a higher flow, which mainly affects the decrease in conductivity and sodium concentration. Finally, this study in the Tilipulo Enríquez ditch may contribute to future research on solutions for the prevention and care of the water in this ditch.
