In this research analyzes the energy and environmental implications of the integration of electric buses into the urban transport system of the city of Ambato. The urban public transport system of the city of Ambato consists of a fleet of 438 buses, distributed in 5 cooperatives and operating companies. The information was obtained from the operating contracts signed between the Transit, Transport and Mobility Directorate of the Municipality of Ambato and the companies and cooperatives operating the public transportation routes. The comparative analysis uses indicators such as energy - fossil and electric consumption, the economic cost of energy consumption and the environmental impact of fossil fuels. In the study carried out with the demonstration that the substitution of buses with combustion engines by electric buses would mean an annual reduction in fossil energy consumption from 511 TJ to 140.66 TJ, in addition, the country reduces its imports by 3 million 180 thousand 760 gallons Diesel a year. In addition, a saving of 24 thousand 774 tonnes of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere is obtained.
