Abstract

CELY, Mauricio; JAMI, Bolívar  and  SOTOMAYOR, Verónica. Development of a Methodology for Obtaining Radiographic Exposure Charts for Steel and Aluminum Specimens by Using an X-Ray Equipment Generator. Rev Politéc. (Quito) [online]. 2018, vol.40, n.2, pp.31-40. ISSN 2477-8990.

For an operator of an X-ray generator equipment is important to know the best technique that will provide efficiency in the test and time saving in a radiographic inspection in order to obtain better results and provide a better service for non-destructive testing. In the present project will want to obtain new exposure charts to test pieces of Structural Steel A-36 and common aluminum, in accordance with the current state of the equipment and on the basis of the analysis of the densities obtained in X-rays of stepwedges exposed to different times and energies of exposure with the purpose to achieve an efficiency in the process and reduce the time spent on this type of non-destructive Testing. Given that only account with a diagram of exposure for the Structural steel ASTM A-36, this project was also obtained an exposure chart in order to carry out evaluations in common aluminum, thus extending the field of knowledge and the application of industrial radiography. At the end tests were conducted in test plates welded steel with the use of the new exposure chart and also a comparison of the radiographic quality and sensitivity between the method of multiplication by factors and with the new diagram of exposure, where favorable results were obtained since calculation times were optimized that will help to improve the processes of tests in industrial radiography as a non-destructive test, in addition, that it is possible to apply a program to calculate exposure times that is didactic and suitable for teaching.

Keywords : exposure chart; stepwedge; radiographic film; x-rays; industrial radiography.
