Abstract

SARZOSA, Mayra; YANDUN, Aracely  and  GARCES, Luis. Performance Analysis of an Isothermal Chemical Reactor Using PID, SSC and SMC Controllers. Rev Politéc. (Quito) [online]. 2018, vol.40, n.2, pp.19-24. ISSN 2477-8990.

The aim of this article is to compare the effect of three different control techniques: Proportional Integral Derivative (PID), state space control (SSC), sliding mode control (SMC), applied on a model of an isothermal chemical reactor which are adequately approximated by first order plus dead time (FOPDT). The magnitude of the error obtained in the SMC is lower compared with the PID and SSC controllers, additionally, the settling time of the plant with SMC was the lowest of the three techniques, and this is the reason that SMC is considered one of the most suitable controllers to improve performance and robustness of chemical processes.

Keywords : PID; isothermal chemical reactor; state space control; slide mode control; FOPDT.
