Abstract
MEDINA, Christian and PLACENCIA, Patricio. Vulnerability Reduction in Essential Occupancy Reinforced Concrete Structures: Hospitals, Located in Ecuador's High Seismic Hazard Areas. Rev Politéc. (Quito) [online]. 2017, vol.40, n.1, pp.35-44. ISSN 2477-8990.
This paper analyzes the influence of the masonry infill in the inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete hospitals, considering their response to the most harmful pathologies attributed to the frame – masonry infill interaction. To do this, framed structures are designed so that they meet the requirements of the NEC-SE. Subsequently it is incorporated the masonry infill to analyze and its influence in the structures behavior. Finally, it is proposed a change of approach in the structural system, through the inclusion of a minimum percentage of shear walls, which minimizes to the maximum the negative effects attributed to the masonry infill, more than meet the requirements and performance exhibited at the standard.
