ALVEAR, D.; GALEAS, S.; GUERRERO, V.H.  e  DEBUT, A.. Synthesis and Characterization of Magnetite Nanoparticles. Rev Politéc. (Quito) [online]. 2017, vol.39, n.2, pp.61-66. ISSN 2477-8990.

Iron oxide nanoparticle synthesis has gained special attention during the last decades because of their interesting applications, such as contaminant removal from water. In this work, magnetite nanoparticles were synthetized using the co-precipitation method and we studied the effects of stirring speed and the reaction time on the yield, size and size distribution, also, was studied the influence dispersion medium pH, in the agglomeration of the nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (MET), dynamic light scattering (DLS), X ray diffraction (DRX) and Raman spectroscopy. It was observed that the stirring speed and reaction time have a positive influence on the reaction yield (85 to 94 %), nanoparticles size (23 ± 13 to 7 ± 4 nm) and size distribution. For the best synthesis conditions, magnetite nanoparticles of approximately 7 ± 4 nm were obtained, with a 94 % reaction yield, with a relatively low agglomeration degree. The dispersion medium pH has influence on the agglomeration of the nanoparticles. Results show that it is feasible to obtain magnetite nanoparticles with an acceptable size for environmental applications.
