Abstract

PAUL, Dávila; JAVIER, Orna; ANDRES, Rosales  and  EDUARDO, Ávalos. Design, construction of the mechanical structure and flight tests of a monitoring hexacopter for military applications. Rev Politéc. (Quito) [online]. 2017, vol.39, n.1, pp.37-48. ISSN 2477-8990.

The present research aims to perform the design and construction of a monitoring hexacopter. The drone has been made of carbon fiber, in order to obtain the lightest structure possible and increase the aircraft payload. In the design, the aerodynamic calculations were made in order to determine the required power for the rotors. For this reason, two theories were compared, the momentum theory and the propeller theory. After performing this analysis it was possible to determine which each engine required a power equal to 614,64 W. In order to fulfill the autonomy requirements, six LiPo batteries of 5000 mAh with six cells in order to get an output voltage of 22,2 V, have been used. This configuration has been allowed to obtain a continuous flight without load during 40 minutes.

Keywords : Drone; hexacopter; carbon fiber.
