Abstract
ONA, J.O. and RUALES, L.E.. Analysis of over voltages due to atmospheric impulse in transmission systems with discontinuities, overhead transmission lines and insulated cables, using ATP. Revista Técnica energía [online]. 2024, vol.20, n.2, pp.1-10. ISSN 2602-8492. https://doi.org/10.37116/revistaenergia.v20.n2.2024.597.
This paper shows an analysis of the overvoltages caused by atmospheric impulses in transmission systems with discontinuities, overhead transmission lines, and insulated cables using the Alternative Transients Program (ATP) software.
The analysis is performed considering direct lightning impact on the guard cable or transmission tower and the direct impact on the phase conductor, when shielding failure occurs. In order to determine voltages at the ends of the insulated cable and analyze its potential affectation, a test transmission system has been implemented, and Base Case has been defined; this case is formed by six transmission towers and insulated cable protected in both sides by surge arresters.
The effect of varying parameters that affect the magnitude of the voltages at both the input and the output of the insulated cable is analyzed in order to determine the most critical situation that can influence the maximum overvoltage values in the insulated cable.
The results confirm the effect that the discontinuities between two components of an electrical system have on the voltage magnitudes that may occur in a system due to atmospheric discharges.
