Abstract

TAPIA, Estefanía Alexandra  and  COLOME, D.G.. Fault-Induced Delayed Voltage Recovery Mitigation by Load Shedding based on Dynamic Load Behavior. Revista Técnica energía [online]. 2019, vol.16, n.1, pp.23-31. ISSN 2602-8492.  https://doi.org/10.37116/revistaenergia.v16.n1.2019.332.

The dynamic load, especially induction motors (IM), represents the driving force for fault-induced delayed voltage recovery (FIDVR) phenomenon [1]. This paper proposes a methodology to identify the induction motors responsible of FIDVR phenomenon in order to guide the load shedding schemeparameterization (load sheddinglocation) and mitigate this phenomenon in a more effective way. The methodology uses voltage magnitude values from PMU devices to detect the phenomenon and the IM rotation speed to identify the motors responsible for FIDVR. The proposed methodology is applied on the IEEE New England 39-bus test system, in which the load shedding scheme based on IMs behavior is compared with a conventional UVLS scheme. The results show that the load shedding scheme based on IMs behavior is more effective since it sheds less load amount and at the same time it achieves compliance with post-fault transient voltage recovery criterio.

Keywords : Short -term voltage stability; FIDVR; induction motors; load shedding schemes.
