Abstract
DIAZ CASTELLANO, Guillermo Osvaldo. Poverty and educational social mobility in Guatemala. Social upgrading proceeds slowly. Podium [online]. 2018, n.33, pp.45-54. ISSN 2588-0969. https://doi.org/10.31095/podium.2018.33.5.
This article purports to describe poverty, social evolution and educational mobility in Guatemala; it is based on a logarithmic regression model and on transition matrices with data derived from living conditions surveys for the period 2000-2014. The results show that in that period, although educational and social mobility increased at the country level, the influence of the father's education on children’s education decreased. Greater educational mobility was found to occur in non-indigenous men younger than forty. Short-distance upward educational mobility was predominant.
