Abstract

VISPO RODRIGUEZ, Yanelis  and  LEYVA ABREU, Yanelis. Ecocritical reading of “pollito pito goes hand in hand” by margaret Atwood. ReHuSo [online]. 2021, vol.6, n.1, pp.57-66.  Epub Apr 03, 2021. ISSN 2550-6587.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5512761.

The work makes an approach to the literary analysis of the story "PollitoPito goes hand in hand", by Margaret Atwood, from an eco-critical perspective. The author, one of the most important Canadian writers of the world literary scene, reflects in the story the concern about the deterioration of the environment and the incidence of the anthropic factor in it, as the artistic appropriation of a social, multicultural and transdisciplinary concern. Valuations based on the militancy of the Atwood and the objectification of the ecocritical approach in the treatment of the argument, theme, space, environment and character categories are referred to. Analog hermeneutic methods were used, those of literary analysis and referents of Ecocritics, a young branch of Literary Studies that proposes the study of the relationship between literature and the environment. The theoretical framework is assumed from the studies offered by Mañalich (1982), Belic (1983), Bajtin (1986), Glotfelty (1996), Montaño (2010) among the most significant. The application of the ecocritical approach in literary analysis, allows to articulate the theoretical presuppositions of Ecocritics with the teaching of literature in the degree in Spanish-Literature Education, in a new approach to texts. In turn, literature thus becomes an ally of environmental education by encouraging students reflection, sensitivity, care and protection of the environment, a vital condition for the survival of the human race itself.

Keywords : literary analysis; ecocritical approach; story; environmental education.
