Abstract
BIL, Damián Andrés and SARTELLI, Héctor Eduardo. Continuities in the Argentine industry from the automotive case: From Kirchner to Macri. E&c [online]. 2018, vol.2, n.7, pp.107-129. ISSN 2477-9245. https://doi.org/10.37228/estado_comunes.v2.n7.2018.84.
We propose to review the evolution of the Argentine economy in recent decades, in order to understand the limits of capital accumulation in the country and the roots of its crises. We begin with an analysis that gives primacy to the world market, because it is the framework that determines the deficits at local level. We refer to statistical series of trade balance, balance of international reserves, the effect of variation in commodity prices, compared labor productivity (by “GDP per employee”), among others of the last three decades, which allows us to understand the gap of Argentina with the most competitive countries. We analyze the automotive industry, from the formulation of the “1 Million Plan”, with the aim of contributing to the debate on the characterizations about the Cambiemos alliance government. With the study, we confirm that Argentina collides constantly with its historical limits: small market, small scale and high production costs. This allows us to discuss the periodization in “development models” dominant in the Argentine economic history, and provide elements to assess the limits of industrial policies, in a particular activity, both the previous administration and the current one.
