Peruvian literature, strongly marked by the country's social and political problems, has rightly dealt with the prison reality. One of the most interesting testimonies of the indignant and painful conditions in prisons in the country has been The Real Life of Alejandro Mayta, by Mario Vargas Llosa. The following lines will address this work within the framework of prison literature in Peru, especially on the treatment of the imprisonment that the text insinuates and its relationship with prison reality.
