TORRES FREIRE, María  and  CAMPUZANO VASQUEZ, John. Impact of the Trade Balance on the Ecuadorian Economic Growth, Period 1990-2019. RCTU [online]. 2021, vol.8, n.1, pp.42-47. ISSN 1390-7697.  https://doi.org/10.26423/rctu.v8i1.554.

The trade balance is an economic indicator of great importance for the economies of the world, its two components, exports and imports, serve as guides to diagnose the development and prosperity of countries, sales abroad with what is purchased demonstrate the state of development, opening and commercial insertion. Due to this importance, the present research aims to analyze the impact of the components of the trade balance on Ecuadorian economic growth, using the study period 1990 to 2019 that unites the pre and post dollarization stages in Ecuador, for the Analysis was used statistical information from the Central Bank of Ecuador with which a logarithmic regression model was elaborated that uses the ordinary least squares method, to estimate the effect of the elasticity’s of the main variables of the Trade Balance on the Gross Domestic Product. The important results indicate that both exports and imports generate a favorable impact on the economic growth of Ecuador; However, imports are the ones that had the greatest effect on the country's growth, which can be explained by the improvement in income and therefore in the purchasing power of Ecuadorians post-dollarization, viewing the period 2009 to 2016 as the one with the best performance for imports.
