Abstract

CAICEDO-CAMPOSANO, Oscar; CADENA-PIEDRAHITA, Dalton; GALARZA-CENTENO, Edgar  and  SOLORZANO-GALARZA, Darwin. Maize’s Permissibility (Zea mays L.) submitted to different flood conditions: determination of drainage time in Babahoyo, Ecuador. RCTU [online]. 2019, vol.6, n.2, pp.67-75. ISSN 1390-7697.  https://doi.org/10.26423/rctu.v6i2.472.

This research was carried out on the ground of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Technical University of Babahoyo, located at Km 7,5 Babahoyo - Montalvo, Province Los Ríos, the target was to evaluate the tolerance of maize cultivation to different flood conditions in its growth phase and the determination of drainage time. In the investigation the hybrid S - 810 was used, the variables evaluated were the following: amount of asphyxiated roots, flowering time male, female flowering time, cob insertion, plant height, diameter and length cob, cob rot percentage, amount of pants and cob, bent percentage, grain yield, percentage of asphyxiated plants. The experimental field design was as follow: Randomized Blocks, consisting of seven treatments and three repetitions. The treatments were flood hours, these allowed to establish the tolerance time; 95% confidence Tukey test was used to evaluate the measures. The results showed an impact on the hybrid S - 810 yield by water application depth for 72 hours, resulting 6,03 t/ha compared to the witness test, which produced 8,8 t/ha. The frequency of water application depth of: 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 hours also negative influenced the agronomic behavior of maize cultivation.

Keywords : flood; wáter stress; hypoxy; drain time.
