Abstract

An ethnopharmacological study of the different endemic species of agave in traditional medicine was carried out, from November 2017 to April 2018; through a bibliographic search in books, scientific journals, databases and the internet, carrying out the botanical study, geographical distribution and etymology of the plant. We set ourselves the objective of carrying out this study, to keep the agave as a traditional therapeutic tool and to encourage research by teachers and students for the botanical rescue of this versatile and valuable plant. Also as specific objectives were drawn, to investigate on the medicinal properties of agave from its secondary metabolites and on obtaining a medicinal product from the plant. As significant results we can mention that the plant is considered medicinal, using this information to transmit it to the students through the class plans of the subject Stomatology; A study of the British Agave T. and Agave americana variety was carried out. It was concluded that the medicinal uses of agave are extensive and that products have been obtained from it, of great benefit and esteemed medicinal value.
