The labor trade for petroleum engineers is currently facing changes due to the crisis our country is undergoing on account of the fall of oil prices. The little flexibility in universities' curricula in Ecuador causes petroleum engineers' professional profile to be developed on a few specific areas in the hydrocarbon products industry. In this article, we analyze the labor trade demand engineering petroleum graduates from Universidad Estatal Península de Santa Elena (UPSE) compared to those from other national and international universities. We also propose a professional profile based in competences according requirements from public and private petroleum companies.
