Las funciones ejecutivas (FE) constituyen un amplio conglomerado de habilidades cognitivas que como su nombre indica, ejecutan acciones determinantes en la toma de decisiones y comportamiento humano. Son de índole cognitivo y socio - emocional, coordinan la información de entrada y salida para regular las conductas, pensamientos y afectos de una tarea a realizar. Alexander Luria plantea su conceptualización a inicios de las década de los setenta, siendo Muriel Lezak la encargada de su divulgación científica. En el presente artículo se realiza una recopilación bibliográfica sobre las FE, sus modelos teóricos más conocidos, su proceso de evaluación neuropsicológica, trastornos más comunes y los estudios más relevantes de los últimos años.

Executive functions (EF) constitute a large conglomerate of cognitive abilities that, as their name indicates, carry out decisive actions in decision-making and human behavior. They are of a cognitive and socio-emotional nature, they coordinate the input and output information to regulate the behaviors, thoughts, and emotions of a task to be performed. Alexander Luria raises its conceptualization at the beginning of the seventies, being Muriel Lezak the one in charge of its scientific dissemination. In this article, a bibliographic compilation on EFs, their best known theoretical models, their neuropsychological evaluation process, the most common disorders and the most relevant studies in recent years is made.
