This article presents a bibliographic review that allows a theoretical reflection on the concepts of sustainable development and business competences. Academic texts and official reports of various agencies and institutions, obtained from physical and virtual databases, dealing with the issues identified with varied perspectives, were chronologically reviewed. Similarly, were analyzed a series of indicators which, according to the various documents studied, should be the key variables that could be used to measure sustainable development and labor abilities and competences. From this historical exploration, it is concluded that, to obtain a sustainable economic, social and environmental development, it is fundamental to integrate the concept of sustainability in the different spheres in which the human being develops. From this perspective, the analytical research ends proposing a list of combined indicators that represent the eco-competences that should be incorporated and actively monitored in the companies in a way that will induce the sustainability in the long term.
