Abstract The trade and journalistic ethics, analyzed from the films True Story and Spotlight, two films that denote the constant interest of the American film industry, to explore and question the work of journalism in their country. A work that has been involved in scandals, either due to the falsification of published journalistic material or due to the opportune exploitation, after being pointed out, of its journalists. Thus, this text, from the comparative analysis, takes a look at the fictional nature of the films, developing an analogy with the reality of historical events within journalism in the United States, which seeks to sustain the existence of ideal types within represented journalism.
