La práctica profesional de la bibliotecología atraviesa un período clave debido a profundas transformaciones que han estado motivadas por los cambios sociales, culturales y, sobre todo, tecnológicos. Por ello, lo ético se constituye en un eje transversal ante los nuevos desafíos de una sociedad en constante renovación. Resulta fundamental analizar la manera en que la sociedad se desarrolla a partir de nuevos retos y problemáticas, de igual forma las prácticas referentes a la bibliotecología y a la documentación. En el caso de este trabajo se analizan las cuestiones éticas en el manejo de la información y el rol que han cumplido los egresados de bibliotecología que pertenecen al cantón Rocafuerte y que laboran en instituciones de esta localidad. Las cuestiones a las que se han hecho referencia tienen relación con cinco aspectos puntuales: la incidencia de la ética, los principios de la ética bibliotecaria, las actitudes en el manejo de la información, las perspectivas de la ética bibliotecaria y a las “obligaciones” del bibliotecario. En este contexto, las necesidades profesionales requeridas por la sociedad deben ser analizadas, para contrastar lo teórico con la realidad.

The professional practice of librarianship undergoing a key period due to profound transformations that have been motivated by changes in social, cultural and, above all, technology. Therefore, the ethical is a transverse axis to the new challenges of a society in constant renovation. It is essential to analyse the way in which society develops from new challenges and problems, in the same way to librarianship and documentation practices. In the case of this work discusses the ethical issues in the management of information and the role that have met graduates of librarianship that belong to Rocafuerte canton and working in institutions of this town. The issues to which reference is made are related to five specific aspects: the incidence of ethics, principles of ethical librarian, attitudes in the handling of the information, prospects for librarian ethics and the "obligations" of the librarian. In this context, professional needs required by society should be tested to verify the theoretical with the reality.
