MENDOZA CANTOS, Jhon Gabriel    VANGA ARVELO, María Giuseppina. Reality and expectation of sustainable construction in Ecuador. []. , 43, pp.197-209. ISSN 2528-7907.  https://doi.org/10.36097/rsan.v1i43.1116.

The era of globalization has implicitly brought new forms of production in the countries to generate economic growth, which leads to an environmental impact and ecological footprint that has had the impact of land and territory degradation; it has caused an economic, social and environmental gap. In this context, consensus and agreements have been reached between countries at the global, regional and national levels to mitigate collateral damage. The academy is involved as an important actor to promote the training of professionals with an objective view towards sustainability in action-research processes. The objective of this research is to identify the knowledge of technical experts in Portoviejo city about sustainable development in construction, in the performance of its profession. The methodology used was experimental explanatory and a stratified sampling survey was applied. The results demonstrate the difference between the knowledge on the subject and the applicability in the Portoviejo’s construction industry and it is concluded there are several factors such as: material costs, low technical knowledge in the usage of elements, and the need to interrelate the government-company-academy with the society, to promote awareness in construction projects in a sustainable way.
