Process of selection, evaluation and publication of articles

Selection process

Each article received will undergo an initial evaluation to verify the journal's guidelines: scope / subject, format, structure and readability. If the manuscript is not within the scope of the journal, it will be returned to the author. In addition, its similarity with other existing jobs will be checked through the Turnitin tool.

When a manuscript does not meet the formatting requirements, it will be returned to the authors to make the suggested changes. In case of not receiving a response to the request, the manuscript will be automatically rejected.

Peer evaluation process

All articles must comply with a blind peer review, which consists of:

  • Review of the manuscript by two or three peer reviewers. Revista Politécnica currently has internal, external and international reviewers, who send the editor their evaluation of the article and their suggestions on how to improve it.
  • The editor gathers the comments and sends them to the author.
  • Based on the comments of the reviewers, the editor decides if the manuscript is published.
  • When an article receives opposing evaluations, both positive and negative, the editor can request additional evaluations from other reviewers, and based on all evaluations, a final decision will be made.

All the evaluation is subject to a double-blind peer process; that is, the authors do not know who their reviewers are, nor the reviewers know the authors of the article.

The evaluation of articles is rated based on the following parameters:

  • Reviewer's Experience
  • Article Novelty
  • Technical Content
  • Quality of the Presentation

The articles, after the peer review, can be cataloged in the system as:

  • Accept Submission: The article is accepted by the reviewers.
  • Revisions are needed: The article requires minor corrections before being accepted (form changes).
  • Forward for Review: The article requires major corrections to be accepted (changes of content or background).
  • Refuse Submission: The manuscript is rejected.

For the cases: "Revisions are needed" and "Resend for revision", the articles will be sent back to their authors to make the corrections of form and substance suggested by the reviewers.

The corrections made by the authors will have to be detailed in a reply letter to the reviewers, as well as indicated in the document returned to the journal, in order to facilitate the review process by peer reviewers.

In order to guarantee high quality in each article, the Editorial Committee of the journal reserves the right to reject articles at any stage of the process.

Publication process

Subsequently, the articles will be submitted to a final review by the Editorial Committee, who will verify that all authors have the information requested at the time of submission (ORCID, short biography, photograph, and contact email), and will evaluate compliance with the quality of the articles. In case of new observations, the articles will be sent back to the authors for the respective corrections.

Finally, the articles, once approved, undergo a format, style and language review.

The Editorial Committee of the Revista Politécnica reserves the decision on the order of publication of the articles, as well as the volume and number in which they will appear.
