INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Article submission guidelines

Presentation and structure of originals
Manuscripts should be submitted exclusively through the OJS 3 platform (https://bit.ly/33yPkxU). All authors must register with their credits, although only one author will be responsible for the correspondence. No author may submit or have under review two manuscripts simultaneously.
Papers should be submitted in Times New Roman 12 font, single spaced, fully justified and without tabs or carriage returns between paragraphs. Only large blocks (author, title, abstracts, descriptors, credits and epigraphs) should be separated with a return. The page should have two centimeters in all margins. Papers should be submitted in Word for PC. The file must be anonymized in File Properties so that the authors' identification does not appear.

Structure
Two files must be submitted simultaneously:

  • Cover letter

Authors must sign the cover letter format, in which they declare that:

  • The work is original and unpublished, and has not been simultaneously put under consideration for publication in any other journal or editorial work.
  • The submission and possible publication of the work is in accordance with the Guidelines for Contributors and the editorial policy of Foro: Law Journal.
  • Their participation and contribution in the conception, design and realization of the work, analysis and interpretation of data, drafting of the text and its revisions, as well as in the approval of the version that is finally sent as an attachment.
  • All authors have contributed significantly to the research.
  • In case errors are detected, they are obliged to provide retractions and to provide the corresponding information on the publication.
  • They provide the corresponding information on the financial support received.
  • Assignment of rights, declaration of conflict of interest and dissemination.
  • Manuscript

Manuscripts tend to analyze a problem and may suggest a solution. Such analysis usually articulates some background information to inform the reader, before moving on to a novel argument. Published articles will follow a structure, containing: abstract, introduction, analysis/argument, and conclusion, such that they provide a comprehensive treatment of a particular area of law. Articles tend to be formal both in writing and in the obligation to ground information and analysis in comprehensive substantive support through consistent citation.
The manuscript must contain on its first page the following data:

  • Article title
  • Total word count
  • Number of bibliographic and jurisprudential references, except for national or international legislation (constitution, laws, international instruments).
  • Full names and surnames of each of the authors in order of precedence (the number should be justified by the subject, its complexity and its extension, being the average of the area three authors). In case of more than three authors, it is mandatory to justify substantively the original contribution of the team, since it will be taken into account in the estimation of the manuscript. The file containing this justification should be in PDF format and should be uploaded to the OJS platform together with the article and the cover letter.
  • In addition, the following data should be indicated for each of the authors:
    • Nationality
    • Highest academic degree
    • Current academic institutional affiliation, with their respective city and country. The affiliation is given by the teaching or studies carried out in an academic institution.
    • Areas of specialization and research (maximum 5 fields)
    • Institutional e-mail address
    • ORCID
    • Extract of your curriculum vitae in a maximum of 5 lines of text. In case there are more authors, the data of each one of them should be included
    • Telephone number
    • Social networks you use and how to find you in each one.

From the second page of this file onwards, the article will consist of the article without any data referring to the author/s. With the following content:

  • Title of the article (concise but informative), in Spanish in the first line and then in English. A maximum of two lines (maximum 80 characters with spaces) is accepted. They are not only the responsibility of the authors but also of the editors. Therefore, if they do not correctly reflect the sense of the work, it may be modified.
  • Abstract in Spanish of 200 to 220 words, describing concisely the reason and objective of the research, the methodology used, the most important results and main conclusions, with the following structure: justification of the topic, objectives, methodology of the study, results and conclusions. It should be written in an impersonal way: ''This study analyzes...''.
  • Abstract in English of 180/200 words. For its preparation, as for the title and keywords, the use of automatic translators is not allowed. The reviewers also analyze this factor when evaluating the work and our reviewers analyze the linguistic level and style if necessary.
  • 8 keywords in Spanish / Keywords in English. The use of the UNESCO Thesaurus is recommended. New terms are accepted only in exceptional cases. Terms should be in standardized scientific Spanish/English.

Language
All UASB-E publications strive for written expression that does not discriminate against women or any group in society, while recognizing the history, structure and economy of the language, and the most comfortable use for readers and speakers.
Therefore, no sexist or inequitable usage will be accepted, nor will the immoderate use of inclusive duplications or the morpheme e, @ (it is not a letter) or x to compose supposedly generic words, which contravene the standard use of the language.

Standards for references
The minimum number of references, including doctrinal and jurisprudential references, is 30. National and international regulations are excluded from this minimum number.
Foro: Law Journal follows the Chicago Deusto Manual of Style 16 (Summary Guide to the Manual of Style (5th ed.), UASB-E), and within this, the Subsystem of Notes and Bibliography (SNB):
The following are some of the requirements set forth in that manual:

  • Words in other languages should appear in italics.
  • The first time acronyms or abbreviations are used, they should be enclosed in parentheses after the complete formula.
  • The bibliography should not be divided into sections and should follow the structure proposed in the Chicago Deusto Manual of Style 16 (Abridged Guide to the Manual of Style (5th ed.), UASB-E).
  • The DOI should be included in all references with the following format: https://doi.org/XXXXXX.
  • All web addresses of references have been shortened with https://bitly.com.
  • On images, maps, tables, charts, graphs, figures and tables:
  • They must be incorporated in the text in an orderly fashion.
  • They must contain complete reference sources (last name, year, page number) in single spacing, 10 points.
  • Each one must have a title and a sequence number.
  • Photographs should be submitted in color, in print quality in PNG or JPG format.
  • In addition to photographs, maps, statistical tables or graphs should also be submitted in color.
  • Tables may be in black and white.
  • It is recommended to include tables and graphs with 3D design.
  • If the tables, graphs, or charts are prepared by the author himself/herself, this should be indicated with the phrase "Prepared by the author.

Important

  • Graphs, tables, charts and figures (illustrations, images, maps, etc.) that have not been created in Word must be submitted as individual digital files, in high resolution and in the program in which they were created. In the case of images, they must have a resolution of 300 DPI.
  • The author(s) must submit a document (see format) that expressly certifies that they are authorized to use images, photographs, maps, charts, graphs, figures and/or tables, either because they are in the public domain, or because the rights holders have authorized it, or because the nature of their work complies with the parameters of fair use, in accordance with Ecuadorian regulations. The certification must detail the images, photographs, maps, charts, graphs, figures and/or tables used, specifying the respective source.
